Year 10 Geography Exam

Year 10 examx are imminent.

Geographers should revise the following topics:-

Urban Geography especially:-

  • counter - urbanisation - village of Leire, Leicester
  • an urban planning scheme eg in Leicester or Birmingham or Sao Paulo
  • Migration - movement of people from rural to urban areas - push - pull factors. This could apply to Brazil

Look at the first post on the geography blog which gives some revision sites. Look at s-cool and bitesize in the urban geography sections.

Planning Revision

Planning revision is important if it is to be effective.

To help you plan all your revision ( not just Geog) you can get a revision calendar if you go to this website:-

www.bbc.co.uk/schools/revision/planners/pdfs/gcse_monthly.pdf

This also contains the dates of the Bitesize TV programmes which you can record and which are extremely helpful. Do not forget to set your recorders the night before because these programmes are on in the early morning.

Revision Guides

Bitesize revision guides are available from Mr. Beresford and Mr. Pearce for £3.

They are an excellent source of information and you can write the relevant Case Studies on the appropriate pages - essential if you are to do well in the exam.

Excellent site for Revision

I found this website on Saturday and have looked through it.

Some very useful material here.

If you are a geograppher in my PLP group I expect you to be able to tell me what is on the site at Thursday's meeting.

Website is on:-

www.radicalgeography.co.uk

Click on Key Stage 4 Geo Revision

There are some very good examples of Case Studies that we have used geg on flooding, coastal erosion, Lucky Goldstar, Brazil, favelas, Aid etc.

Geography revision

Recommended sites for geography revision and regular updates are as follows:-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/geography/

http://www.s-cool.co.uk/topic_index.asp?subject_id=20&d=0

http://cgz.e2bn.net/e2bn/leas/c99/schools/cgz/accounts/staff/rchambers/GeoBytes/Homepage/index.htm

http://www.averyhill.org.uk/

BBC site is well known and well used and is recommended. Good interactives, you are able to revise and test. Remember to record the TV programmes that accompany it. Dates and times of geography programmes will be posted later.

S-cool is a nice, clean unfussy site which I like. It offers a simple breakdown of key ideas, has an excellent Quick Learn section with graphics and test questions.

The Geobytes site offers much useful guidance and provides regular updates on geography on the news. Well worth a browse.

The Avery Hill site covers your geography syllabus and offers exam revision guidance and examples of past papers. Recommended regarding specific revision advice and hints and tips about answering exam questions. Also includes definitions of command words.

Watch this site for further updates and guidance.
